The Egyptian Academy of Bone Health and Metabolic bone diseases is a professional medical association of health professionals with special interest in osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases. The Academy provides free podcast interviews with experts in the field, keeping you up to date with the latest research on your computer or on the go. In cooperation with the specialists in the field of Osteoporosis, the Egyptian Academy created e-Learning Modules for colleagues who would like to learn more about diagnosis and management of Osteoporosis. Please see the about us page. The Academy advocates for patients and the public and set standards for Bone Health, management of metabolic bone disorders as well as Bone Health education. The Academy works in collaboration with other colleagues regionally as well as internationally. Imminent Fracture Risk

A fragility fracture is a major risk factor for further fractures, and healthcare systems are now beginning to recognise the benefits of secondary fracture prevention. Despite this, less than 50% of patients receive effective secondary fracture prevention after a fragility fracture. This has led to national and international initiatives to improve clinical services by implementing fracture liaison services (FLSs).

Fracture Liaison Services

Fracture liaison services (FLS) systematically identify people aged 50 and older who have had a 'fragility fracture', with the aim of reducing their risk of further fractures. Following comprehensive assessment, FLS start osteoporosis treatment and refer people to other services to improve their bone health and reduce their risk of falling. The Egyptian Academy is working to endorse and support the introduction of FLS across Egypt.
